Darenth Valley Golf Course had an existing website but it was performing badly and much of the functionality was broken.
The site had been built using a CMS (content management system) but the client was struggling to understand the administration back-end and couldn’t make any day to day changes to the site. Adding to this the broken functionality, the result was that the site could no longer be updated which was not good at all.
In addition, customers had been negative about the existing navigation which some had commented made them feel sick with too much vertical and horizontal sliding happening.
The golf course has two very distinct business activities catering for Golfers and Brides to be, both of whom have very different needs. Unfortunately, as is common with many other websites in this sector, the design was generic and totally lacking in appeal for the bridal market. It was important that the redesign bore this in mind, giving each section its own distinct feel, but remaining sympathetic to the overall identity for the golf course.
Golf by Design
The website was rebuilt from scratch creating a custom WordPress theme. The same attention to detail was given to both the front end build of the site and the administration back end access so that the client would be able to update the site on a daily basis with ease.
A new Events section was added so that the golf course can make full use of the website to market promotional offers for all of its business activities. The landing pages for each section were constructed with flexibility in mind giving the client total control to reorganise the layout and change content to reflect seasonal marketing activities.
The site was developed to be responsive and this included upgrading the format of the online booking system to match. This greatly improved user experience so that both the site and online booking system would work in harmony and deliver a seamless experience to the end user, regardless of the device being used.
The new responsive website has gained industry recognition at this year’s Kent Digital Awards 2015 winning Silver for Responsive Website and the coveted Gold for Website: Sports and Entertainment categories.
Match Made in Heaven
The wedding section was designed to have a more feminine appeal. Navigational elements remained the same as for the golf section of the website but the visual effect was softened by the introduction of a script font and pink pastel colour palette.
Testimonials are an important part of this section, a bride wants confidence that her day will be perfect. The testimonial include wedding photos from previous happy couples which give a special touch, reflecting the personal and friendly service delivered by the golf course.
Straight From the Birdie’s Mouth
Social media plays a large part in the course’s marketing activities. The site has been developed so that the twitter streams are tailored to suit the individual sections. Golf related tweets appear in the Golf section and bridal related tweets feature in the Weddings and Functions section.
Analytics Keeping the Momentum
She Codes briefed Darenth Valley Golf Course on the use of analytics so that a close eye can be kept on online activity. The golf course will be able to not only monitor which types of social media prove popular, but also have a firm understanding of which third party sites bring the most traffic. This means any advertising budget can be wisely spent on the media channels with a proven track record.
